Over time the political patterns on the earth are continually changing- "Space and the human use of it is dynamic" (spatial aspect & space on the earth)
*Geography is defined as the science of area differentiation-observe, inventory, map, classify, analyze, & interpret the patterns of Earth (human relationships over different parts of the Earth)
Some perspectives on Political Geography:
-Richard Hartshorne: "The study of the variation of political phenomenon from place to place in connection with variations in other features of the earth."
-Derwent Whittlesey: "The kernel of political geography is the political area...the political significance of any area bears a well-defined relation to its climate, landforms, and natural resources."
-Stephen B. Jones: "Political ideas generate political forces with in specific areas...as areas become political in characteristics they, in turn, begin to shape political ideas and processes.
-Dr. H. R. Trendell: "A human political play acted out on a geographic landscape which is real in its consequences."
Political area or space of geography is Multidimensional--
Horizontal (tangible)-shape, size, location
Vertical (intangible)-goals, laws, economics, and cultural tools interplay upon the horizontal plane
Time (intangible)-interaction at any given period
